Triptans Include Sumatriptan (Imigran), Rizatriptan (Maxalt) and Zolmitriptan (Zomig).




  • Headaches which occurs on most days of the month (15 or more days)
  • Recurrent headaches (Four or more attacks per month)
  • A recent skin rash accompanied by a headache
  • Stiffness around the neck
  • A variety of different symptoms in each separate migraine
  • Chest pain or palpitations
  • Seizures
  • Difficulty in performing coordinated movements
  • Hearing a ringing sound in the ears
  • Pain in the back of the head
  • Lower levels of consciousness
  • Double vision
  • Weakness in one side of the body
  • Recent significant worsening of migraine symptoms, such as increased frequency, duration, or severity of attacks.

  • Seizures
  • Cardiovascular disease (including heart attacks, angina, or ischaemic heart disease)
  • Problems with your blood pressure
  • Coronary vasospasm

  • Arrhythmias
  • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Previous cerebrovascular accident

  • Combined oral contraceptives
  • Antipsychotics (such as flupentixol)
  • Medications for depression (such as lithium)
  • MAOIs (such as moclobemide or selegiline)
  • SSRIs (such as citalopram, fluoxetine or sertraline)
  • SNRIs (such as mirtazapine or venlafaxine)
  • St. John's Wort
  • Cimetidine
  • Antibiotics (such as ciprofloxacin)
  • Antifungals (such as ketoconazole)
